Nina, Queen of Georgia

Nina Ananiashvili , a former star of the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow
and, afterwards of American Ballet Theatre, is one of the most
brilliant classical ballerinas of our times. She left ABT recently
in order to return to her country and become director of its
national ballet company. Since then, she has revamped the
National Ballet of Georgia and instilled new life into it, thanks to
her artistic personality. Last October the top-brass of the
dancing world flocked to the Opera House in Tbilisi, attracted
by a somewhat unusual première of an old Bournonville ballet: a
clear sign that this “new” ballet company is now firmly
established on the dance scene
