Sasha Waltz crosses over

Sasha Waltz’s “Roméo et Juliette”, originally
created at the Paris Opéra in 2007, has now been
re-staged at La Scala, Milan. An event, though
hardly an exceptional one for Waltz, a leading light
of Germany’s Tanztheater, who is accustomed to
having her works performed in the big theatres. Nor
for ballet and its large companies, now fully
accustomed to crossover genres and artists –
something that would have once been totally
unthinkable
